 St. Joseph Community Chorus and William Baker Festival Singers Join Forces for Black History Month Concert

 St. Joseph, MO – January 15, 2024 - The St. Joseph Community Chorus (SJCC) and the William Baker Festival Singers (Kansas City) are proud to present a special concert in celebration of Black History Month on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church located at 301 N 7th St., St. Joseph, MO. The event will commence at 3:00 PM.

 This unique musical celebration aims to honor the rich contributions of African American composers and the African-American song tradition. The concert will feature separate sets by the St. Joseph Community Chorus and the William Baker Festival Singers, showcasing a repertoire influenced by or written by African American composers.

 The highlight of the program will be a special tribute to the late Moses Hogan on the 20th Anniversary of his passing. Both choirs will combine to perform one of Hogan's iconic pieces, "Elijah Rock," in remembrance of the legendary composer.

 The concert is open to the public, and there is no cost to attend. A free-will offering will be taken during the event.

- "My God is a Rock" arranged by Alice Parker

- "Way Over in Beulah Land" arranged by Stacy Gibbs

- "John the Revelator" arranged by Paul Caldwell and Sean Ivory

 

**SJCC:**

- "By The Lonely Seashore" by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor

- "My Heart Be Brave" by Marques Garrett

- "Music of Life" by B.E. Boykin

- "The Cloths of Heaven" by Adolphus Hailstork

- "We are the Music Makers" by Reginald Wright

- "Psalm 100" by Charles D. Coleman

 

**Combined Choirs will perform:**

- "Elijah Rock" by Moses Hogan
