St. Joseph Community Chorus Presents “Christmas at the Cathedral”

Featuring Kansas City’s Rezound! Handbell Ensemble

St. Joseph, MO — The St. Joseph Community Chorus (SJCC) will present its beloved holiday tradition, Christmas at the Cathedral, on Sunday, December 21 at 3 p.m. and Monday, December 22 at 7 p.m. at the beautiful Cathedral of St. Joseph, 519 N. 10th Street. This year’s concert features special guests, Rezound! Handbell Ensemble from Kansas City, under the artistic direction of Janet Carter.

The concert begins with the SJCC Chamber Choir “warming up” the audience with traditional carols before the full chorus processes to the risers singing “Personent Hodie,” a Latin carol retelling the Christmas story and the birth of Christ. Under the direction of Tim Tharaldson, the chorus will perform a joyful mix of holiday favorites, including André Thomas’s spirited “” John Rutter’s luminous “Angels’ Carol,” the lively “Catalonian Carol,” and a playful, toe-tapping rendition of “Deck the Halls”. Audiences will also enjoy Stars Over Snow, an original work by Artistic Director Tharaldson that captures the beauty and wonder of the season.

Joining SJCC are the acclaimed musicians of Rezound!, Kansas City’s premier auditioned handbell ensemble. Together, SJCC and Rezound! will perform three stunning collaborations: Anna Laura Page’s “Creation Will Be at Peace,” “Christmas Is Coming” by Joel Raney, and “Ring Out Ye Bells” by Marques L.A. Garrett, Samuel Carlton, and Dan Forrest.

Rezound! features 15 ringers performing on an impressive array of instruments—6½ octaves of Schulmerich handbells, 6 octaves of Malmark choir chimes, 4½ octaves of Whitechapel bells, and additional sets from Petit & Fritsen and Maas-Rowe. The ensemble’s unique combination of bells creates a rich and colorful sound that will fill the Cathedral with shimmering harmonies. Members of Rezound! hail from across the Greater Kansas City area—from Lawrence to Oak Grove and the Northland to Overland Park—and are celebrating their 25th anniversary season, which will culminate in a special gala concert in summer 2026. For Christmas at the Cathedral, Rezound! will also perform a festive set of Christmas tunes guaranteed to lift your holiday spirits.

Tickets for Christmas at the Cathedral are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, and free for students of all ages. Tickets are available online at www.stjoechorus.org/tickets or at the door.
